Jean worked in collaboration with graphic and web designer Kevin Roberts to design promotional material for the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra’s GIOFest Xl, an annual festival of improvisation usually held in the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow.

In addition to the event poster the art and graphic material developed by Jean and Kevin was used in the design of the festival programme, advertisements for The Wire magazine and social media promotion.

Sound for the Future

Sound for the Future

sound for the future

Jean created collages for animation for ‘Sound For the Future’ an affectionate, daring and hilarious reconstruction of the story of The Hippies, Britain’s youngest post-punk band, as told by the band’s drummer, filmmaker Matt Hulse.

Jean responded in collage to songs on a cassette album recorded by The Hippies which were then animated by the film’s editor Nick Currey.

The film, Hulse’s third feature, premiered online in 2020 at the London Film Festival had its first UK tour in late 2022.

Sound For The Future is available to watch via various streaming services.

Music Creativity and Wellbeing

Jean contributed two digital collage prints to Issue Nein of ZERO PLAN a 12 issue zine series made by sound artist Alan Dunn which takes Paul Young’s 1983 album No Parlez as its starting point. Dunn says of the project:

‘Artist Rutherford Chang is buying up every copy of The White Album he can find – I buy every copy of NO PARLEZ I spot (as long as they’re under £4); it’s my Charity Shop Cover Version. Did they simply print too many copies of NO PARLEZ? They are everywhere. ZERO PLAN is absolutely the best title for this zine, the best anagram of NO PARLEZ I could come up with’

Jean’s collages respond to The Beatles’ Revolution #9, the lense of Issue Nine, remixing fragments, imaginings, and her own personal fandom.

Jean is also contributing to an upcoming sound project for ZERO PLAN in 2023 – more details to be announced

Digital and print copies of Issue Nein available here.
